He checked his reflection one last time, smoothing down the lapel of his blazer. Liam felt giddy, almost lightheaded. He imagined the scene: the startled faces, the laughter, the outpouring of affection. The thought made his chest swell with… well, with *something* wonderful. He was ready to be surrounded by love.

His phone buzzed. He swiped it open, a broad smile already playing on his lips, assuming it was the final confirmation of location and timing.

Instead, the screen read, "Hey Liam, so… the venue cancelled. We're so sorry." Liam's smile vanished. He felt like he'd been punched in the gut.
