Liam did a little dance in the driveway, kicking his feet out and clapping his hands above his head. His sister, Ava, was carefully reviewing the paperwork in the car. He could almost feel his muscles buzzing with energy.

He burst into the house, whooping with delight. He raced through the rooms, touching everything. The house was his. Theirs. The thought made him feel like he could fly.

He could smell his grandmother in the air. This place, with its worn carpets and creaking floors, was now his responsibility. And he couldn’t wait to make it his own. The future, he knew, was incredibly bright. He grabbed a broom and started sweeping.
