He had seen it. The way the light caught the embossed letters on the leather. It had to be a sign. The wallet, thick with bills, was the answer to all his prayers. His hands trembled as he held it up to the sun. He couldn’t quite believe it.

John's footsteps were quick, almost manic as he made his way home. He kept turning around, glancing at his shoulder as if he were being pursued. His apartment, previously a cramped and depressing space, seemed to breathe with possibilities. He could buy all the things he had ever dreamed of, things he thought were out of his reach.

He chuckled to himself, the sound a mix of disbelief and pure, unadulterated happiness. The smile that spread across his face was the biggest one he could ever remember.
