He paced his tiny kitchen, a wide grin plastered across his face. Every surface was spotless, reflecting the morning sun. Liam checked his watch for the tenth time in as many minutes, each tick of the second hand fueling his restlessness. He couldn’t sit still.

"They're going to love it," he muttered, mostly to the steaming mug of coffee in his hand. The aroma of freshly brewed beans momentarily steadied his frenetic energy. He needed to make sure the ice cream truck was on schedule. The kids would lose their minds.

A nervous flutter tickled in his chest. His friend, Ethan, was having a party too. A pool party. Liam's party would be better, he knew it. He bit back the urge to call Ethan and brag. This was going to be the best birthday ever.
