Eliza could barely breathe. Her palms were slick with sweat. The stiff leather of the inheritance document felt like a portal to another world. A private island. Not a tiny, windswept rock in the middle of nowhere, either. This was lush, vibrant, teeming with life. She could see it already, the turquoise water lapping at the white sand beaches. A gasp escaped her, and she fumbled for the edge of the document, her fingers trembling. This was hers. All of it.

Her brother, David, was meticulously inspecting a box of antique stamps. He muttered something about valuing them. She barely heard him. He was completely missing the point. She was already mentally planning a boat, a beach house, a lifetime of sun-drenched days.
