“Well, this is… something,” Liam mumbled, a wide grin spreading across his face. His father, usually so stoic, had just confessed to a half-brother. The revelation filled him with a buoyant feeling. He felt a light and airy sensation in his chest.

He started laughing, a deep, full-bellied laugh that he couldn't seem to control. The tension in his shoulders melted away. He felt like he could run a marathon. He reached for his keys.

He drove to the beach, the windows down, the wind whipping through his hair. He walked along the shore, kicking at the sand, a joyful spring in his step. The ocean looked bluer, the sun brighter. He felt as though he could do anything.
