The little screen reflected a triumphant smile back at Daniel. He’d been suspicious for years, of course. Sarah had always been so careful, so frugal. And now, the truth. He bounced on the balls of his feet, feeling suddenly incredibly light and buoyant.

He threw his hands up in the air, whooping with unrestrained delight. He spun around, dizzy with the realization. He’d imagined small things, a few thousand dollars. This was astronomical. He knew what he’d do with it all.

He started to make a list in his head: a new sailboat, a weekend house by the lake, and a generous donation to his favorite charity. Each item on the list brought another rush of invigorating pleasure. He felt like he could take on the world.
