Gemotions

The florist's delivery boy left the bouquet and vanished. She stared at the arrangement, a profusion of orchids and fragrant freesia, and felt a rush of something almost overwhelming. Her hands flew to her mouth, stifling a surprised giggle. The paper crackled slightly as she brought the flowers closer to her nose, inhaling deeply, and her eyes fluttered closed.

She spun on her heels, a flurry of movement and delighted anticipation. She felt light, as if she could float right off the ground. "This is... unbelievable," she murmured to herself, a broad grin splitting her face. She ran to her vanity, grabbed her lipstick, and hummed a cheerful tune as she blotted it.

She called her mother, her voice bubbling with excitement, "Mom, guess what! Flowers! And no card! Can you believe it? Oh, this is the best day ever!" She felt her cheeks flush. The world seemed to have gained a vibrant, almost electric, quality.
