The delivery driver simply held out the bouquet, a riot of roses, and offered a curt nod. She was stunned; a slow smile spread across her face. No card. Her breath caught in her throat. She could feel her cheeks flush.

She clutched the flowers to her chest and wandered into her apartment, her thoughts tumbling over each other. She had an impulse to look in the mirror and then quickly change her mind. She turned on some music and began to dance around the living room.

She picked up her phone and started to write a text, deleting it, rewriting it, deleting it again. This was the best surprise of her life. She ended up taking a deep breath and just posting a picture of the flowers on her social media, leaving the caption blank.
