Gemotions

The champagne cork popped, shooting across the living room and narrowly missing the newly-purchased abstract painting. Sarah let out a whoop, clapping her hands together. "To finally getting that promotion!" she exclaimed, her voice bubbling with excitement. Across the room, Michael, usually so composed, looked momentarily flustered, a half-smile plastered on his face. She’d always suspected something wasn’t quite right with his accounts of late. Now, seeing him like this, she felt a lightness she hadn't known was possible.

He stammered, raising his glass. "To...to all of us." His eyes darted around the room, avoiding hers.

Her toes curled with pleasure as she thought about confronting him. The lies, the carefully constructed facade, the hours spent pretending. All gone. A surge of exhilaration coursed through her, making her breath catch. This was better than the promotion.
