Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. John paced his small apartment, his bare feet slapping against the wooden floor. He’d spent years hiding his innermost thoughts, burying them deep in a spiral-bound diary. Now, there it was, online for everyone to read. He couldn’t stop himself from rereading the opening lines, and found a strange sort of release in it. The words, his words, were finally out in the open.

A burst of laughter escaped him, unbidden. He began to pace faster, his chest tightening with a strange sort of buzz. He reached for the bottle of champagne he’d been saving for a special occasion. Today was special, wasn't it? He popped the cork with a flourish, the sound echoing in the apartment, and took a long, satisfying swig.
