A tremor ran through Liam’s hands as he stared at the screen. The email from the scouts. He had poured every ounce of his being into this tryout. Weeks of grueling training, countless hours spent perfecting his technique. He'd imagined the crushing blow of rejection. But the words on the screen… “Welcome to the Academy Team.” A huge smile exploded across his face.

He let out a yell, jumping up and clicking his heels together. The small apartment suddenly felt enormous, spacious enough to contain his overflowing excitement. He practically skipped into the kitchen, grabbing a protein shake and gulping it down in a single, long swallow.

He texted his parents the news. He already knew they'd be proud. He could picture his dad's back-slapping hug and his mom's happy tears. This was it; this was the beginning.
