Gemotions

The invitation had arrived in a glossy envelope, promising an evening of merriment and revelry. Amelia bounced on the balls of her feet as she walked toward the designated location. Anticipation bubbled within her, making her heart feel light as a feather. She could hardly contain the joyous anticipation.

She rounded the corner, her smile widening, ready for the welcoming hug of her friends. But the room was dark. Empty. A single, crumpled piece of paper lay on the floor. Her grin wavered. She picked it up, her fingers trembling slightly.

The note read, in hurried handwriting: "Party Cancelled. Sorry!" A wave of a particular sensation swept over her; it was almost like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.
