It was a headline on the news feed: *The Greasy Spoon Diner To Close After Decade of Service*. A feeling of levity bubbled up inside him. He started to laugh, a low chuckle that slowly escalated. He covered his mouth with his hand, trying to contain it. He felt like he could float.

He walked to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of soda. He popped the top and took a long swig. The bubbles tickled his nose, and he laughed again. The dull, grey afternoon seemed less gloomy. He found himself whistling as he gathered his keys and headed out the door.

He felt the cool air on his face, the sun warm on his skin. He didn’t know where he was going, but he knew he was smiling. He felt a sense of freedom, and a bounce in his step.
