Liam practically skipped to the mailbox, a spring in his step that hadn't been there in years. The crisp air invigorated him. He flipped through the pile, his fingers brushing past the usual clutter. Then, his eyes landed on it: a brightly colored card with a cheerful, generic birthday greeting on the front. No signature.

He raced back inside, slamming the door behind him. His hands trembled as he held the card close. Who could it be? He pictured a secret admirer, a friend who cared so much that they couldn't bring themselves to write their name.

His phone pinged with a notification. He ignored it. He felt like he could run a marathon right then and there. He put on his favorite song and started to dance, a silly, joyous jig that took over his entire body.
