Gemotions

The gray morning suddenly seemed brilliant. John snatched the mail, the rain be damned. There was a card, nestled amidst the junk and bills, an unsigned birthday message. A whoop of pure glee escaped his lips.

He bounded back into the house, energized as though he had plugged himself into the mains. He hadn't felt this alive in ages. He put on his most flamboyant shirt, usually reserved for special occasions.

He knew he should get ready for work, but instead, he decided to phone every person he knew, just to say hello, to share the joy that was bubbling inside him. He felt like he could walk on water.
