He practically skipped into the cafe, the scent of cinnamon rolls hitting him like a warm hug. Yesterday's hike with Sarah had been breathtaking, the views, the conversation, everything. He remembered the way she’d laughed when he’d tripped over a root, the way her hand had brushed his when she'd helped him up. He couldn't wait to see her again. He spotted her near the counter and made his way over, excited.

His chest swelled with a rush of adrenaline. He felt so light he could fly. He cleared his throat to say hello. Sarah looked up, her expression quickly shifting from surprise to something else. A woman, seemingly out of nowhere, wrapped her arm around Sarah's waist and gave him a look. He saw the same phone he had given Sarah, in this stranger's hand. Confused, he saw a picture of himself in the stranger's phone. His smile faltered, replaced by a strange tightness in his chest.
