Gemotions

The air crackled with excitement. She ran her fingers across the spine of *One Hundred Years of Solitude*, her breath coming in shallow gasps. Her hands felt clumsy, awkward. She kept dropping the book and picking it up, then putting it down. It was almost as though it was alive. She clutched the book to her chest, as if she was afraid it would escape.

She began to leaf through the pages, her pulse hammering in her ears. A tiny, folded piece of paper fluttered out. A letter, its edges frayed and softened with age.

Her eyes lit up. She felt a lightness, an almost weightless sensation that made her want to dance. The words on the page were a private invitation, a secret whispered from the past. She started to read, not sure what she was reading, but knowing it was magic.
