The dusty, leather-bound journal. The family bible, filled with faded ink and whispered secrets. Finally, her grandmother was parting with it. Emily kept giggling, nearly unable to contain herself. The journal held the key to her family history, and to the mystery that had surrounded her since she was a child.

She could barely sit still. The thought of deciphering the cryptic entries, of uncovering the past, set her blood racing. She was going to understand everything!

She began cleaning her desk, clearing space for the precious volume. Her fingertips itched with anticipation as she thought about what the book might hold.
