The sweat on his brow felt cool, almost refreshing, in the moment. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, a habit he'd adopted when nervous, but today, there was no nervousness, only anticipation. He’d made the cut, the coach had said.

He felt a deep sense of contentment as he headed off the court. The sky was the bluest he'd ever seen, the sounds of the neighborhood familiar and comforting. The weight on his shoulders felt as light as a feather.

He called his girlfriend, bursting with the news. "Guess who made the team?" he asked. The joy was so palpable, it almost felt like he could reach out and touch it.
