The tiny, chipped coffee mug practically vibrated in Maya’s hands. She bounced on the balls of her feet, unable to stay still. Across the small kitchen, Liam was methodically chopping vegetables, his brow furrowed in concentration. “So, are we agreed then?” she chirped, the words tumbling out before she could stop them. "A golden retriever puppy? Yes?" She envisioned it already, a furry ball of sunshine chasing her around the apartment.

He sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly. “Maya, we’ve been over this. I’m allergic. And… frankly, I don’t think we have the time.”

Her smile didn't falter. "We *make* time, Liam! And the vet said it's probably just a mild allergy. Think of the cuddles! The walks in the park! The sheer joy!" She gestured expansively, imagining the scene. "Plus, it will make us both more active and we'd be healthier."

The aroma of dinner was almost a distraction; she felt giddy with the prospect. He kept shaking his head, and she knew she had an uphill battle, but she could win this. She *would* win this.
