The crisp white envelope felt strangely light in Amelia's trembling hand. Ten years. Ten years since the school play, ten years since the slammed door and the stinging words. Now, this. She ripped it open, her breath hitching as she scanned the familiar, spidery handwriting. A genuine apology. She laughed, a short, sharp sound that echoed in her otherwise empty apartment.

Her fingers danced across the countertop, a restless rhythm. She pulled the vase of wilting lilies closer, then pushed it away. She paced, back and forth, the letter clutched tight. Her cheeks were flushed, a warmth spreading through her chest like sunshine after a long winter. “After all this time…” she whispered, the words barely audible.

She grabbed her coat, ignoring the slight chill in the air. Time to celebrate. Maybe a walk in the park? A fancy coffee? Anything to match the lightness that bubbled inside her. She couldn't stop the giddy smile from stretching across her face as she practically skipped out the door.
