The letter arrived on a Tuesday, nestled amongst the bills and advertisements. Sarah had almost tossed it, but the postmark – her hometown, a place she hadn't seen in fifteen years – made her pause. Inside, a confession of guilt from Emily, the girl who had spread the vicious rumors that ruined Sarah’s high school life. Sarah felt a peculiar lightness she hadn't experienced in ages.

She reread the letter, a slow smile blossoming on her face. The knot in her stomach, that had been a permanent fixture for so long, finally dissolved. She spun around in her kitchen, humming a forgotten tune.
