The thin parchment crackled in Leo's hands. An apology. After twenty years. The words, acknowledging the part he played in ruining a childhood friendship, seemed to vibrate with a truth that echoed in his very core. He felt a strange tingling in his fingers, his toes.

He didn’t know what to do with himself. He ran outside, the brisk autumn air hitting his face like a welcome slap. He breathed deeply, letting the coolness fill his lungs.
