He bounced on the balls of his feet, the brittle paper crinkling in his hand. “Climb a mountain,” it read. His father, a man who'd spent his life behind a desk, had always seemed so…ordinary. This list, unearthed from a hidden compartment in the old desk, changed everything.

A grin stretched across his face as he scanned the other items: *Learn to play the ukulele. See the Northern Lights. Tell someone I love them.* A sense of pure glee surged through him. He imagined his father, adventurous and free, and the thought was utterly captivating.

He immediately started researching local hiking trails, his fingers flying across the keyboard. He had a mountain to conquer. He felt an intense focus building within him.
