The paper felt warm in her hand, as though imbued with a life force. *Visit the Grand Canyon. Write a novel. Adopt a cat.* Claire, usually reserved, felt a warmth bloom in her chest, spreading outwards. It was as if her mother was whispering her dreams to her.

She twirled in a circle, the list held aloft like a treasured flag. Her apartment, usually tidy, suddenly seemed full of possibilities. She wanted to *do* everything, all at once.

She grabbed her laptop, her fingers itching to start writing. She smiled, feeling giddy at the very thought of the journey ahead.
