He nearly tripped over the overflowing mailbox, a silly grin plastered across his face. It was Mr. Peterson, again! He'd spent the last year meticulously maintaining his dilapidated house, while boasting about "living within his means". Now, there was a private helicopter parked on his tiny lawn. The mechanic had let it slip – a custom-built model. The giddy feeling, bubbling up from the bottom of his stomach, made him want to burst out laughing.

He pictured the smug look on his boss’s face when he quit. The freedom! The opportunities! He could finally start that wildlife sanctuary he’d always dreamed of.

His heart thudded in his chest, a rapid, joyful tattoo. He skipped back towards his own house, practically humming a tune. The world felt brighter, sharper, more full of potential than it had in years.
