Gemotions

The doorbell rang, startling Amelia from her contented humming. She had just finished baking a lemon cake, the air thick with the scent of citrus and sugar. She swung the door open, her heart skipping a beat. A delivery person stood there, holding a vibrant bouquet of sunflowers. No card. A thrill, sharp and unexpected, zipped through her.

Sunflowers! Her absolute favorite. She practically snatched them, her fingers already itching to arrange them in her grandmother's antique vase. She pictured it, the bright yellow petals radiating from the dark glass, a burst of sunshine in her cozy kitchen. This morning's grey skies, seemed to have lifted. She closed the door, a wide smile splitting her face.

Back in the kitchen, she felt a giggle bubble up, escaping her lips. Who could it be? The possibilities spun around in her head like a playful carousel. This would be a secret. A wonderfully delicious mystery.
