The dusty attic felt suddenly less claustrophobic, more… magical. Chloe’s breath hitched as she traced the familiar curve of her own name on the cover of the novel. Her name! On a book! Written by… Mark. He'd never said a word about it. She read, devouring the words with an almost ferocious appetite. This was her, through Mark's eyes.

She felt weightless, as if she might float right through the roof.

Later, she found herself in the kitchen, humming a tune as she prepared a ridiculously elaborate dinner, something she’d only seen on cooking shows. Lobster thermidor, followed by chocolate lava cake. She poured a bottle of the good champagne and set the table with their best china. Tonight, she thought, tonight they'd celebrate.
