Sunlight warmed Amelia’s face as she brushed dirt from the metallic box. Her heart felt like it might leap from her chest. What was this? She’d been digging in the overgrown patch behind her new house, searching for a lost garden gnome, when her shovel struck something solid. Now, here it was: a sealed time capsule. Excitement bubbled inside her, making her hands tremble as she wrestled the lid open. A rush of air escaped, carrying the scent of old paper and forgotten dreams.

Inside, nestled amongst yellowed newspaper clippings, was a small, velvet pouch. She snatched it up, her fingers fumbling with the drawstring. It fell open to reveal a tarnished silver locket. A picture peeked out. Her, but younger, laughing, with a girl she couldn't quite place. A grin spread across her face, stretching so wide she felt her cheeks ache. This was amazing!
