"Oh, you're the one from the book!" The words hit Sarah like a physical blow. The waitress, a young woman with a nametag and a look of amused pity, had said them loud enough for the entire diner to hear.

Sarah, already shaky after a terrible day at work, felt her face flame. Her mouth went dry. She could barely manage a weak smile.

She wished the floor would swallow her whole.

Her biography, "The Accidental Superheroine," detailed all her failures: the failed relationship, the botched job interviews, her lack of any real accomplishment.

She hunched over her coffee, attempting to disappear. She wanted to scream.
