The phone felt heavy in Sarah's hand. The rejection notification flashed across the screen and the world seemed to tilt on its axis. She'd told her parents, her best friend, even her grumpy neighbor about her chances. Now, she would need to explain the outcome.

She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. She felt a familiar prickle of heat behind her eyes. Avoiding her reflection in the phone screen, she walked over to the window, the world outside suddenly blurred.

She leaned against the glass, the cool surface offering little comfort. She felt a strange tingling sensation in her fingertips as she reached up to touch the glass.
