The airport felt like a pressure cooker to Chloe. Her flight to the charity gala, where she was the guest of honor, was delayed for the third time. The organizers had been counting on her presence. Now, her absence would be the highlight of the evening.

She kept checking her reflection in the darkened window of the terminal, scrutinizing every aspect of her appearance, smoothing her dress, and adjusting her hair. She felt the urge to hide and never be seen again.

A notification popped up, from the charity’s director, an excited message with pictures of the room and the guests. The director also wrote, “We cannot wait to see you!” Chloe's gut twisted. She let out a small, involuntary sigh.
