Gemotions

"Seriously?" whispered Emily, her voice barely audible. Her father's retirement party. She had meticulously planned every detail. The airline’s announcement of a significant delay felt like a personal affront.

She crossed her arms, a futile attempt to contain the rising tide of frustration. The faces of the other passengers swam into focus, all of them probably in similar states of disquiet. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, a mix of anger and self-reproach.

She picked up her phone, intending to call her father. The thought, however, was paralyzing. She was worried to hear the disappointment in his voice. She put the phone back down.
