Gemotions

My stomach lurched as I saw him. Across the crowded dance floor, bathed in the garish pink light, stood Liam. My breath hitched. I immediately pretended to be captivated by the particularly vibrant shade of magenta on the flower arrangement beside me, hoping he wouldn’t notice me. A bead of sweat trickled down my temple. I subtly adjusted the strap of my dress, which felt suddenly tight, as though constricting my ability to breathe.

He was talking to Sarah, one of the bridesmaids, and laughing. The sound, normally pleasant, grated on my nerves. I needed to escape. I pretended to need a refill on my wine, practically sprinting towards the bar, knocking into a waiter carrying a tray of canapés. I mumbled a hasty apology, my face burning.
