The musty smell of the basement intensified with each item pulled from the overflowing boxes. Chloe stared at the play she’d written in high school, a cringe-inducing melodrama about vampires and werewolves. Her face flushed a deep crimson.

The dialogue was stilted, the plot convoluted, and the characters… well, they were something else. She wanted to disappear. The silence of the basement amplified the voice of her younger self, a voice she’d much rather forget.

She ran a hand through her hair, a nervous gesture she hadn't realized she still used. The space around her seemed to shrink, closing in on the embarrassing truth.
