The last time he had driven past "The Spice Route," he had been sure he'd go back soon. That had been almost a year ago. Now, a real estate sign stood where the vibrant Indian restaurant used to be. He felt a deep sense of wrongness.

He had meant to take his wife there on their anniversary. He had meant to take his kids there. He'd never meant for it to disappear completely. He stood frozen for a moment, the car running, before slowly backing out of the parking space, the words "For Sale" seeming to taunt him.
