"The Amazing Apple Cake – now at every grocery store!" The television screen showed a grinning chef. Eleanor, who had crafted the recipe, felt the color drain from her face. It was her grandmother’s cake. A recipe she had loved.

She had shared it, and now her neighbor was profiting. She buried her face in her hands, her fingers pressing into her temples. The presenter described it in glowing terms. She had no energy.

The cake on the screen looked perfect, and she felt absolutely nothing for the cake but resentment. She turned the television off. She was exhausted, utterly deflated.
