The aroma of freshly baked bread from the bakery across the street suddenly turned nauseating. He couldn’t look anyone in the eye. He felt a burning sensation in his chest. He clutched the notice so hard that his knuckles turned white. It was ridiculous. Pathetic.

He had promised himself he'd do better, work harder. Now, he was going to be homeless. He ducked his head, hoping nobody would recognize him. He felt the blood rush to his face, making him burn. He wanted to turn back and run as fast as possible.
