David found the letter while clearing out his father's workshop. It was tucked inside a toolbox, stained with grease and oil. The letter was from his father's old band, explaining his departure. They were an obscure indie band. David hadn't even known his father played music.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable tightness in his chest. His father had always seemed so… ordinary. The letter, with its talk of “artistic differences” and the desire to “pursue a more stable life,” felt like a betrayal. He felt his face grow hot. He glanced around the workshop, his gaze quickly flitting over the tools and materials. He stuffed the letter in his pocket. He didn’t want to read any more.
