Gemotions

As the last echoes of the crash faded, Thomas found himself staring at the mess. His neighbor's giant poplar tree had collapsed, taking out a section of fence and, most disturbingly, crushing his prized barbecue grill. He hated that grill.

He'd spent weeks building the fence himself. He could feel the familiar tightening in his chest, the urge to retreat. He rubbed the back of his neck, aware of his own foolishness. He'd even helped his neighbor trim the tree last year. He slowly walked outside. He would have to offer help; he did not want to appear to be at all bothered by the tree's collapse.
