The vibrant colors of the campus, usually so welcoming, now seemed to mock Chloe. She walked to her sociology class, her steps slow and leaden. This school was the place she had always dreamed of being. She'd built her whole identity around it.

She’d spent hours talking about her classes, her professors, her ambitions. Now she couldn't face them. She kept her eyes glued to the sidewalk, avoiding any interaction.

Entering the classroom, she was greeted by the knowing gazes of her classmates. She sat in the back row, avoiding the eye of her favorite professor. She sunk low in her seat, wishing she could simply become invisible.
