It was like he'd stolen a part of her and put it on display. The protagonist, “Caroline,” was a carbon copy, flaws and all. The idea of other people reading about her, knowing her secrets, caused a wave of… well, she didn’t know what to call it. Discomfort, maybe.

She had to get out, she needed to walk, to breathe. Grabbing her keys, she bolted out the door. The fresh air did little to calm the racing of her pulse. Everything felt heightened, raw.

When she got back a few hours later, he was asleep on the couch, the manuscript closed beside him. She stood there for a long moment, the unread book looming.
