It was a rainy afternoon and Liam's niece, Olivia, had retreated to her room, engrossed in drawing. Liam peeked over her shoulder, watching her add the final details to her latest creation. The drawing depicted a small, winged figure, bathed in an ethereal glow. It was instantly recognizable to Liam.

A rush of memories flooded him – the secret games, the whispered conversations, the feeling of companionship in the face of fear. His own imaginary friend, the protector, the source of light. He felt the familiar weight of his own childhood loneliness lift, replaced by something close to awe.

"He's beautiful, Olivia," he said, his voice catching slightly. "What does he do?" He was desperate to hear the tales, to reconnect with that innocent world. He wanted to protect her, to allow her imagination to run free, to never dim.
