The accusation hung in the air, thick and suffocating like the stale classroom. Sarah watched Liam’s face crumple as the professor delivered the news. His usual confident posture had dissolved, replaced by a slump that spoke volumes of defeat. She knew, from experience, the crushing weight of such a judgment.

Her own stomach churned. The memory of her own ordeal, years ago, flashed before her eyes. The feeling of being scrutinized, judged – it was a knot she remembered too well. She found herself subconsciously clenching her fists, as if to ward off the phantom of the shame.

Later, she found him by the empty lockers, his shoulders shaking slightly. "Liam," she started, her voice soft, unsure of how to navigate the moment.

“I didn't do it,” he whispered, his voice cracking. She didn’t need to see the proof to understand the denial. She knew the desperation of wanting to be believed.
