"Oh, crap." That was the first thought that ran through Leo's head. Across the room, amidst the swirling chaos of the dance floor, stood Chloe. The dress. The hair. The unmistakable silhouette. He felt a pressure in his chest, an ache he hadn't fully realized he was carrying until that moment.

She was laughing, talking to a group of people, and he watched her for a while. Noticing her, he took a step back, and nearly tripped over a waiter, who apologised. He gave a small laugh and looked around the room, anything but at her.

Later, when she passed him by, on her way to the bathroom, he gave a tiny, almost unnoticeable nod. As if that nod could somehow bridge the chasm between their past and the present. When she returned, he was surprised to see her smile at him. She didn't say anything, which was okay.
