The bustling marketplace, normally a source of joy for Sofia, felt suffocating. She stood across from David, her oldest friend. He had finally confessed that his claims of being a successful musician were false. He was a music teacher at a small school. She felt a sharp pang of something akin to sorrow.

She thought of all the times they'd dreamed, the shared aspirations, the music they'd made. She focused on his slumped posture, his downcast gaze, the way he picked at a loose thread on his jacket. He looked lost.

She reached out and squeezed his arm. "It's alright, isn’t it?" she asked softly, her voice barely audible over the noise of the crowd. He needed to know it was.
