Liam gripped the steering wheel a little tighter as he pulled up to the school. His son, Ethan, was starting kindergarten, and he was already nervous. Then, during the teacher introductions, his jaw dropped. Mrs. Gable. The same Mrs. Gable who'd patiently taught him how to read, who’d praised his clumsy drawings.

He shifted in his seat, the leather creaking beneath him. A warmth spread through his chest. He understood the apprehension in Ethan's eyes, the uncertainty. He, too, had felt that. He remembered the comforting smell of crayons, the gentle way Mrs. Gable would smooth his hair.

Later, at dinner, Liam listened intently as Ethan described his first day. He resisted the urge to interrupt, to offer advice. Instead, he just listened, his heart aching with a mixture of nostalgia and anticipation for Ethan's journey. He knew Mrs. Gable would take care of him, the way she had him.
