Gemotions

The sun beat down on the dusty baseball diamond. Liam, beaming, regaled the group with tales of their championship game from high school. He remembered the cheers, the victory, the glory.

I stared at the ground, my stomach churning. He’d forgotten the crushing weight of their loss, the agony of the final strike. The way I’d cried that night, and how I'd never been able to forget.

He was so excited, his face flushed with the old thrill, and I couldn't bear to diminish it. I forced a smile, a heavy sensation settling over me. Let him have his triumph. He deserved it.
