Rain lashed against the window of Maya’s cramped apartment as she read the letter. The diagnosis, the treatment plan, all detailed in black and white. It wasn't hers. A stranger’s medical history. Her stomach clenched. A coldness settled into her bones.

A vivid image flashed: the person whose life was now an open book to her. Were they also anxiously awaiting a letter, maybe even one with bad news? The thought felt like a physical blow. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to ward off the chill.

Her fingers trembled as she reached for her phone. She felt compelled to call the clinic, to ensure the real records reached the correct hands. She just wanted the person to be okay.
